Miranda IM is a freeware open source, multi-protocol instant messenger client that cuts out the bloat in order to ensure maximum ease of use and resource consumption. It's so efficient in fact that it can be run from removable storage such as an USB memory stick.

With more than 350 plug-ins available for extending its capabilities, Miranda doubles as a powerful IM tool that can be as streamlined or as functional as you want. ICQ, AIM, Jabber, IRC, and MSN messaging protocols are supported in the basic edition, while plug-ins can add access to Gadu-Gadu, Tlen, Netsend, and other protocols.
