The Windows Server 2003 Service Pack is a collection of essential upgrades and enhancements for the Windows 2003 operating system. Microsoft Service Packs are cumulative so there's no need to install earlier releases of a service pack if you haven't already done so.
Included in the first service pack (SP1) are the new networking features in Windows XP SP2 (Windows Firewall, Windows Peer-to-Peer Networking, client-side support for Wireless Provisioning Services (WPS), updates to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the new Netstat -b option, enhancements to wireless LAN networking, and more) as well as server-side support for WPS and TCP/IP enhancements.
Additional features include an enhanced security infrastructure with new security tools such as Security Configuration Wizard, which secures your server for role-based operations; improved defense-in-depth with Data Execution Protection; and a safe and secure first boot scenario with Post-Setup Security Update Wizard.
