RoboForm: Efficient and Convenient Password Management and More Password Management and More Joseph Moran
No sane person would dispute that the advent of the Internet era has brought with it unprecedented access to information. Anyone who uses the Web extensively, however, knows that these benefits have not come without a price.
While all kinds of information can be obtained from countless web sites at no charge, few of them will grant access to their bounty without prior registration and signing in, and for many users, the drudgery of constantly logging into web sites, filling out forms, and performing related tasks can quickly take some of the joy and convenience out of using Internet.
Cookies can help somewhat by caching login credentials, but they don't fill out forms for you and they of course involve potentially significant security risks. They're also useless (and even more dangerous) on public access computers or any machine that's not your own.
Portable RoboForm (also known as Pass2Go) is a $39.98 utility from Siber Systems that aims to make surfing the Web easier by automating the aforementioned mundane tasks and providing several other useful features. Based on the company's standard RoboForm utility, Portable RoboForm can automate the filling out of forms, store logon credentials, automatically log on to web sites, generate random passwords, and bookmark frequently visited web pages.
What sets Pass2Go apart, though, is the fact that the utility makes all of these features portable. Rather than residing on a particular system, Pass2Go is installed and remains resident entirely on a removable USB Flash drive, making the encrypted content mobile and thus usable on any system an individual user might choose to interact with. The utility should also work (though not as conveniently) on any type of writable and removable media, including ZIP disks or even floppy drives.
