Microsoft Download Improves Office OneNote 2003 It's a Service Pack! It's an Upgrade! It's a Preview!
04.26.04. Users of Microsoft's OneNote note-taking and information-organizing program will want to, er, take note of a free download that adds features and boosts the performance of Microsoft Office OneNote 2003. Based on customer feedback from surveys, newsgroups, and focus groups, Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1 Preview delivers better integration with Office 2003, the ability to copy notes from a Pocket PC into OneNote, and the option of password-protecting notes.
New rich-media support lets users capture screen images; import still images or video notes using a digital camera, Webcam, or camcorder; and move written or audio notes from a Windows Mobile-based handheld or smart phone automatically when the device is sync'd with the PC. The preview also inserts Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents which can be annotated with typed or handwritten notes; imports meeting details from and sends contact and appointment info to Outlook 2003; and can password-protect and encrypt notebook sections. Tablet PC users will find it easier to delete specific text or whole notes with intuitive pen gestures, while networked colleagues can view and edit the same OneNote pages in real time.
The final release of OneNote 2003 SP1 will follow the Microsoft Office System Service Pack 1, which is scheduled to ship in late summer. When it arrives, users will have to uninstall OneNote and the patch preview and reinstall OneNote 2003 using their original product CDs.
