An Aesthetically Cool New Modern Interface
Netscape 6.0 is the first major new release from Netscape in more than three years, and as such, should be expected to include a significantly enhanced interface to go along with a variety of feature additions and enhancements. With the official release finally available for download, Netscape 6 certainly doesn't disappoint in either respect.
The first change that immediately jumps out with the new release is its dramatically different interface. Long-time users of Netscape will likely be quite surprised upon viewing the new interface for the first time. The new interface brings a modern flair to Web browsing with a polished look and feel that deviates dramatically from earlier Netscape releases (and even earlier preview releases of Netscape 6.0). At the same time, the Netscape 6.0 interface is more streamlined and intuitive than previous designs.
And, if for some reason, you happen not to like the new interface, you can even choose to return to the old -- and dare we say dull -- "Classic" Netscape 4.x look using Netscape 6.0's new Themes feature. Themes are custom designed interfaces that slip over the default Netscape 6.0 interface. Netscape retains the same set of features and functionality; the themes only change the look and feel of the interface. A Themes Gallery is available for downloading themes designed by other users, and there's also a Theme Builder tool available from Netscape that will allow you to design your own themes.
