BlackICE consists of a sophisticated network monitoring engine that scans all inbound and outbound traffic on your network for suspicious activity. Any time an attempt is made to infiltrate your system, BlackICE steps in and automatically denies access to the potential hacker, while at the same time allowing legitimate data to pass through the network unaffected.
BlackICE's countermeasures detect hostile activity by continually monitoring network traffic, identifying any intruders, and then shutting them out of your system before they can do any damage. The hacker's connection to your computer will immediately cease to exist. No matter how hard he or she tries, the intruder will not be able to break the BlackICE shield as Defender turns away all network transmissions from the hacker before they can reach your computer.
Another useful feature in BlackICE is that it gathers information about regular attackers. Through the use of sophisticated backtracing features, BlackICE can present detailed information for known hackers. This information includes the infiltrator's IP address, the node and group of the network they're using, and their DNS address. The best part is that hackers are unable to detect BlackICE running on your network and are therefore not only unable to disable the Defender to access your network but are also unaware that their information is being captured and reported to you.
