Microsoft Office 97 Service Release What's New in Service Release 1 Forrest Stroud
What's New in Service Release 1
Perhaps the most valuable new addition in the first service release (SR-1) is the inclusion of the Word 6.0/95 Binary Converter for Word 97, which allows users of Word 97 to save files in the Word 6.0/95 native file format (this converter is also available separately at the Microsoft Download site). The Word Converter and additional conversion tools in the initial service release make it much easier for users of different versions of Office to share files with one another.
In addition to support for the standard English version of Office 97, SR-1 also offers support for nearly twenty International releases, including French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, and International English. If you have an International version of Office 97, you'll need to download a customized version of SR-1 available from the SR-1 International Releases Page.
Additional new features in SR-1 include support for Intel MMX technology, a snapshot client for Microsoft Access, enhanced support for POP3 and SMTP Internet e-mail in the Outlook 97 desktop information manager, and a variety of new viewers and app enhancements.
