IE 5 Browser Enhancements
IE 5 also introduces a number of feature enhancements to its core browser. Most notably, the new release incorporates IntelliSense technology, which was first introduced in Office 97. IntelliSense makes the browsing experience more user-friendly and is partly accomplished through a collection of "Auto" tools -- AutoComplete (automatically completes URLs, e-mail addresses, and passwords throughout the browser), AutoSearch (helps you find a Web site when typing in a URL fails), AutoInstall/Install-On-Demand (installs browser components on an as-needed basis), AutoDetect (detects when offline), and AutoConfiguration (automatically configures proxy settings).
Additional features that enhance the browsing experience include unified online/offline synchronization, customizable toolbars, a cool new radio toolbar that allows you to listen to live radio broadcasts on the 'net, and revamped Search, Favorites, and History functions. The Search function has been redesigned as the Search Assistant, a tool that allows you to narrow Internet searches by selecting the type of information desired.
With the Search Assistant you can search for information within specific categories like Web pages, your history folder, e-mail/home addresses, companies and organizations, maps, encyclopedia articles, newsgroups, and more. Both the Favorites and History functions are now more intuitive in IE 5 and include a number of customization options (for example, the History function can now list sites by date visited, by site name, by number of visits, or by the order visited).
