Overall, the latest release of Internet Explorer far surpasses earlier versions and definitely gives Netscape a run for its money. Considering that you can download and use Internet Explorer for free (with no strings attached), the battle appears to have tipped towards Microsoft's side for the first time. Will Netscape be able to recapture its lead or has the time for crowning a new champ arrived?
Note: IE 4.x is no longer available for download and is not supported by Microsoft
Pros: Extremely quick, excellent mail client and newsreader, Active Desktop, freeware
Cons: IE 5/6+ raise the browser bar and, to a very large degree, make IE 4.0 obsolete; discontinued and no longer supported by Microsoft
