Microsoft DirectX
Introduction
Forrest Stroud

DirectX is a set of drivers developed by Microsoft to provide programs (specifically games and high-end multimedia applications) with high-performance, real-time access to your computer's audio and video hardware. While DirectX 6.0 has been included with Windows 2000 and Windows 98 SE, for Windows 95/98 users this upgrade is the only way to get your hands on the latest DirectX technology. The current 7.0 release of DirectX consists of five major components -- Direct3D, DirectInput, DirectPlay, DirectDraw, and DirectSound.
