Staying on Top of the Game
Norton Internet Security utilizes the LiveUpdate tool found in the latest releases of most Symantec products. LiveUpdate keeps the program engine, virus definitions, firewall rules, and URL database up to date. This is especially important for the area of Internet Security — new Trojan horses and similar backdoor programs are being created each day with the sole intent of surreptitiously accessing computers like yours that access the Internet using an always-on connection.
The only shortcoming to LiveUpdate is that you must manually run the tool in order to download updates; in other words, at this time there are no scheduling capabilities currently in LiveUpdate for automatically updating NIS on a regular basis. The $50 registration for NIS includes one free year of LiveUpdate updates; subsequent years cost $19.95 per year.
The second of NIS's two Internet tools, LiveAdvisor, delivers personalized product support tips, updates, and upgrade information proactively to your desktop from the Internet. While not as essential as the LiveUpdate tool, LiveAdvisor works to help you stay on top of the game and get the most out of Norton Internet Security.
