Kaspersky Anti-Virus (AVP)
Comprehensive Scanning and Real-time Monitoring Capabilities
Forrest Stroud

Comprehensive Scanning and Real-time Monitoring Capabilities

The scanner's extensive -- and comprehensive -- scanning and real-time monitoring capabilities rank right up there with Norton AntiVirus and VirusScan, yet despite its thoroughness scanning is done in an efficient background process that doesn't draw attention to itself, and more importantly, doesn't slow your computer down as you work on other tasks. When combined with a relatively modest price tag (starting at $19.95 for a single-user "Lite" license), AVP's scanning and monitoring capabilities make the client a fairly easy sell.

These capabilities are actually a collection of technologies that work together to ensure the maximum protection of your system. Among the technologies implemented in AVP are a resident, background virus monitor for virus detection in real time; a Code Analyzer for detecting new, previously unknown viruses; an anti-polymorphic detection engine for detecting variants of standard viruses that have replicated and mutated; a smart-analysis engine that discovers potential hidden viruses by using advanced analysis to identify those files that can and cannot be infected with a virus; and a macro virus detection engine that detects and removes all known types of macro viruses in Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and Ami Pro.
