A hugely popular freeware newsreader, News Xpress took the USENET community by storm and quickly rose to the top of the newsreader category, where it duked it out with the twin-combo of Free Agent and Agent for a couple of years. Unfortunately, though, just as a native 32-bit version was released, News Xpress apparently ceased development and hasn't been heard from again since early 1997 (the program is however still available for download).
For those who have been patiently -- or even anxiously -- awaiting word of a new release during the last two years, all hope is not lost. While News Xpress has perhaps breathed its last breath and returned to the ashes from whence it came, the phoenix has arisen in the form of a new newsreader called Xnews. The completely free newsreader is as close a reincarnation of News Xpress as there possibly could be.
