Additional features in Yahoo! Messenger include audible stock alerts, an invisible mode that lets you remain online without being visible to other Yahoo! Messenger users, custom status messages to let users know what you're doing, e-mail sending capabilities, and themes support (for personalizing the Messenger interface with different backgrounds and icons).
Recent releases have added some helpful new options to make Yahoo! Messenger even more helpful and user-friendly. A minimized message option will send all of your incoming instant messages to the minimized taskbar icon, where you can view them whenever you want. Another useful addition is a notification option that displays small text messages above the taskbar icon when one of your friends gets online or goes offline and a second one that displays messages when you receive e-mail messages.
The latest release of Yahoo! Messenger, version 4.0, adds some exciting new features of its own, including support for making free PC-to-PC calls in the U.S. as well as inexpensive international phone calls, a recent history and message archive, Nicknames support, an integrated Yahoo Companion for sending IMs from your Web browser, a send contact information feature, emoticons support (smileys for use in IMs), and font effects.
