Three Editions of Eudora Now Available
The current downloadable version of Eudora actually includes three separate editions. The first edition operates in paid mode and includes all the features of the previous Pro releases. In order to use this edition, you'll need to first pay the $39.95 registration fee. The second edition operates similar to the older Eudora Light client in that it is freeware but lacks many of the advanced features found in the Pro releases.
The third edition is a break-through for Eudora in that, for the first time, users can take advantage of all of the Eudora Pro features without having to pay a registration fee. This edition operates in ad-supported mode, but it displays only a single 145x145 ad in the lower left-hand corner of the interface. If you've been looking for a mail client that offers the power of Eudora Pro but without the price tag, Eudora's ad-supported mode is easily your best bet.
In addition the ad-supported mode, other new features as of version 4 include more powerful mailbox sorting capabilities, enhanced SMTP authentication support, an import tool for transferring messages and addresses from Microsoft Outlook Express 5, and a link history window that displays Web links you've clicked on recently as well as recent advertisements if you're in the ad-supported mode.
