Using Windows 95 Explorer Show All Files Paul Jones
How can I see every file, complete with file extensions, on every drive?
The very first thing every Windows 95 user should do, after installing the operating system, is to open Explorer; choose View, Options; switch to the View tab; and click on Show All Files. Until you manually make this switch, Explorer refuses to show any files with DLL, SYS, VXD, 386, and DRV extensions--in other words, all the key files on your drives--as well as the folder C:WindowsDesktop. While you're at it, uncheck the Hide MS-DOS File Extensions for File Types that Are Registered box. As long as you have this box checked, it's almost impossible to change a file's extension. For example, if you right-click on the file sometext.txt and try to rename it sometext.csv, the filename will actually be changed to sometext.csv.txt, and Explorer won't give you a clue that it's shanghaied the extension.
