WEBPLANET Tools 2000 Individual Components Jim Fox
Here are the components of WEBPLANET Tools2000:
Finder This is the component for searching the Internet. Finder enables parallel access to more than 80 search engines, as well as additional country-specific search engines. Search engines can be combined into groups, depending on what you are looking for. Finder comes preconfigured into basic groups such as Business, Career and Job, Computer, and many more. You have the option of creating your own personal groups. Once you have identified your search parameters and entered your search key words, it is a simple matter of clicking on the search button and Finder does the rest. When completed, you are presented with a list of web pages identified as "hits".
Checker This is one of the more useful components of WEBPLANET Tools2000. Checker analyzes your computer, both your hardware and software, and develops a clickable list of all manufacturers with their Internet addresses. This is very useful when searching for driver or software updates. One note: when we ran Checker on our test computer, it failed to identify all the installed hardware and software. It also identified software which had been previously removed. This is really not that surprising, and just goes to show that when software is removed, most still leaves remnants on your computer. We would have liked it to do a little better on the hardware detection; for instance, our test computer had two Western Digital hard drives but no Western Digital entry was generated.
Spy This component did not seem to work on our review copy. The documentation says that Spy is supposed to use the database generated from Checker and analyze it for manufacturer updates. You should then be presented with a list of manufacturers. When you click on a manufacturer, you will see a list of updates available, which can be selected and installed. Unfortunately, the only manufacturers that showed up in Spy on our test computer were two entries for WEBPLANET. The company has stated that the Spy component will probably be deleted from the next release of WEBPLANET Tools and replaced by two new components.
Crawler This component scans an Internet server for your keyword string and presents the results in a clickable list. Simply enter the URL, your keyword and the recursive level. Then press the Crawl button. The recursive level defines the depth to which the site will be analyzed. The generated list gives you an overview of pages containing your keyword. Double click on a hit to be connected to that page. Crawler scans HTML pages, Java Script, Gifs and text documents.
Analyzer This component analyzes and lists all linked HTML pages on a particular Internet or Intranet Server. It gives you information about Title, Content, Structure of content, Size of the server, Size of loadable files and Hyperlinks, checking whether all links lead to an existing page. Analyzer lists and highlights all non-working pages with a red X. This is useful for checking your entire web site to identify missing links and other problems. To view a page simply click select and double click it. With the option Maximum Level the entire server is analyzed.
Grabber This Tool grabs your favorite Internet pages on the Internet or company intranet. Enter the Internet address or URL, define a recursive level and then you are set. With the Timer and Scheduler function you can tell your PC to perform the monitoring and downloading at a later time. If Grabber finds a newer version, it displays the content status and will download on request. This module checks and monitors HTML documents or files (like xls, ppt, doc and txt types).
