RealNetworks RealPlayer Plus G2 What is RealPlayer Plus G2? Ben Durbin
RealPlayer Plus G2 is a streaming media player. What is streaming media? It's anything from the audio that you hear when you visit some web sites, to internet radio, to live video clips and broadcasts on the web.
Streaming media takes large files, whether they are sound, video, animation or other media types, and breaks them up into smaller pieces to send to their destination (your computer) across a network. By doing this, RealPlayer Plus G2 is able to read the file as it comes in and play it long before the rest of the file arrives.
Well, it all sounds great. The only problem is that as the data streams in a little at a time, it can cause interruptions. This is where buffering comes into play. With buffering, RealPlayer Plus G2 is able to collect a larger portion of the media file before it starts playing it, allowing it to have enough time receive the rest of the file and, hopefully, avoid stuttering. Of course, this is connection-dependant, so if you have a slower connection you can still expect to see some break-up.
