Panda Antivirus Platinum 6.0
Interface and Configuration
Ben Durbin

Panda’s interface has a very nice, clean, easy-to-use look and feel to it. You can easily navigate through: immediate scans, scheduled scans, scans at system startup and activity reports of resident viruses, or even your internet protection scans. If you only have the evaluation version, you see how much longer you can use the program at the bottom left hand corner of the screen at all times.

There are two interfaces, basic and advanced. The difference is that the basic gives you a description of the different sections at all times, while the advanced mode does not. After the first time you use Panda, you really don’t need the descriptions anymore and can just switch to the advanced mode, which also adds a few more minor options.

The only problem with its interface is that it looks almost exactly like another Antivirus program called PC-Cillin. There are differences in the interface and options, but the look might still remind you of PC-Cillin.

Test 2: Configuration Capabilities

If you really want to set up your own scans and configure them, then just hit the configure icon at the top of the screen in whichever section you choose. In this test we used the Internet Resident’s configuration capabilities.

When you get there you will notice that there are lots of scan options. You can check the types of files to be scanned in your email, incoming or outgoing. You can even choose types of scan, such as: audio, video, images, and applications.

You can select types of Internet item to scan, as we’ll discuss later on. Use the Actions tab to select what you want to take place when a virus is found. There is also an option to send reports and warnings out to others, while blocking potentially risky addresses and ports.

Panda Antivirus Platinum has some great configuration capabilities and passes test 2 with flying colors -- if you have it registered. With the evaluation version, not all configuration options are possible. So you’ll have to register it to get the full effect.
