Web Accessories For Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 What's In It For Me? Paul Jones
Just because it's small doesn't mean you have to download it, but let's take a look at why you do need to download it.
Text Highlighter
One of the cooler tools, with this one you can select text, right-click on it, then choose Highlight from the pop-up menu. It highlights your selected text in bright yellow. There's only one problem--it highlights text with a yellow background regardless of the text color, so for pages with white text on dark backgrounds, the highlight makes it impossible to read the text. But if you only want to highlight pages with dark text, this tool is very neat.
Quick Search
Quick Search is simple, and very cool if you do any kind of Web searching. It lets you perform searches on different search engines right from the Address (Location) field. For example, if you type "is book binding" in the Address field, it will do a search on InfoSeek for "book binding". The line "av book binding" will do the same search on Alta Vista. I love this tool!
Zoom In/Zoom Out
This is great for zooming in and out on Web images, if you have a need for that kind of thing.
Open Frame in New Window
If you're stuck in frames it's hard to get out of them without knowing the URL of the frame you're in, and you can't find that out without viewing source code and rooting around in some HTML. And if you don't know what it's like to get stuck in frames, you will. And when it happens, you'll be glad you have this tool to get you out. Simple right-click on the frame you want and then choose Open Frame in New Window from the menu. Slick!
Web Search
One of my personal favorites, this tool lets you highlight any text on a Web page and do a search for it. Just highlight the text you want to search for, right-click on the text, then choose Web Search from the pop-up menu. Lovely!
Image Toggler
It took the IE team three versions of IE to finally add this feature, and even so it came in an add-on (and aren't all add-ons really just patches in disguise?). But late or no, this is a very good feature. Too bad it didn't come out in IE 2 when we really needed it.
Links List
Sometimes you just want a list of all the links on a page. This utility lets you get that very list with a right-click on any Web page. Very nice for developers!
Images List
Have you ever wanted a list of all the graphics on a Web page? No? Well I have. And that's exactly what this tool does. Right-click on any page and select Images List for a new browser window that displays all the images on a page. Another handy tool for developers!
