VMware Virtual Platform For Linux: Beyond Dual-Booting
Conclusion
Paul Jones

Now that we've touched on the incredible features offered by this revolutionary software, let's see what kind of machine it takes to run it. In this age of multi-gigabyte hard drives and cheaper RAM, the requirements to run VMware are modest to say the least. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

Hardware Requirements
  • Standard PC with Intel Pentium or compatible processor (Pentium II or compatible recommended)
  • Minimum 64MB memory (96MB recommended)
  • 3MB disk space for basic install
  • At least 500MB free disk space recommended for each guest operating system and applications
  • Multiprocessor systems supported Windows NT Host OS
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or higher

NOTE:
As of this writing, VMware Virtual Platform beta is only available for Linux as a host OS, but the beta version of VMware Virtual Platform for Windows NT is scheduled to be out in mid-May.

It isn't everyday that I see a product that makes me think: This is the future of computing!, but VMware's Virtual Platform is exactly that. Ladies and gents, the future is on its way!
