Wrox Press Beginning Access 97 VBA After the Intro Karl Moore
Chapters after this section tend to get a bit more involved. Although fairly easy to understand and not too many corny jokes, you'll find the author sometimes steers a subchapter into a different direction than the original aim. And whilst the information revealed during these tangents is amazingly useful, it can still be a deterrent at times.
One very noticeable and positive fact about the book, however, is it's great abundance of screenshots. It is crammed with descriptive diagrams simplifying complex concepts and actual VB screenshots, allowing you to learn easily -- even if you're not in front of the screen.
Chapters four to nine take you through the intermediate stage -- from amazingly useful sections on Recordsets through to an informative section on working with external data. After chapter ten, things start to get interesting -- be prepared to get your hands dirty with advanced programming techniques. You'll find excellent time --saving advice and information on error handling, optimisation and multi -- user databases.
And I'm not just saying that 'cause Wrox deposited a huge goodwill payment in my Swiss bank account... but, during the later chapters, this tutorial turns into gold!
The book is finished off by what I can only call a "cute" section aptly entitled "Finishing Touches," describing neat little tricks to add better functionality to your apps.
All code samples are also followed by a discussion as to "How It Works", which is particularly useful -- seeing the practical application and explanation of theory helps the reader digest new functions and programming techniques.
Each chapter in the manual builds on creating a Whisky database, and the CD contains "in -- progress" Whisky databases for each section. In addition to this, chapter -- skippers should be excited to find out virtually all of the sections are independent of one another, meaning you can jump straight to the bits which really interest you.
