Adobe Systems has released the latest edition of their award winning image editing software. Photoshop 5.0 incorporates several new features and enhancements to save time and increase productivity. New to this upgrade are multiple levels of undo and redo, editable text with character level formatting, complete color management controls and built-in support for spot-color channels. Photoshop 5.0 also introduces new Automation plug-ins which let third party developers create custom wizards to streamline tasks.
One new feature that really stands out is the History palette. The History palette tracks every change you make to an image in a single editing session. You can then jump back to any given step to view it or to undo the steps that follow it. The number of actions the History palette can track is bounded by certain limits--primarily the amount of available memory and the size of the image. As memory gets tight, the History palette drops older actions. You can, however, preserve a particular image state by taking a snapshot of it. The History palette also includes several hot-key short cuts for quickly skipping between states
Another feature added to this release is the ability to add horizontal or vertical text to any image. Photoshop provides precise control over a whole host of type attributes including font, kerning, color, leading, tracking, baseline shift, letter orientation and alignment. You can also add layer effects--drop shadows, inner shadows, outer glows, inner glows, bevels, and embossing are all very easy.
