Name Server Lookup allows the user to translate an IP address to a hostname, or vice versa. Finger reports information on a user after entering the individual's email address. Whois will query databases and return information about domain names, IP address assignments, and individual names. Character Generator connects to another computer on the Internet and reports back an approximate speed of your connection in characters per second.
Daytime will connect to a remote host and report back the local time. The Quote client connects to another computer running the quote of the day service. Upon connection, the server computer returns a short bit of text, the quote of the day. Time Sync is a client which requests the UTC (GMT) time from any network time server and uses that information to tell you how far off your computer's clock is from the network time server. You can also have Time Sync synchronize your computer's clock to the network time server.
NetScan Tools has three utilities to verify your connection to a remote computer on the Internet. Ping sends a packet of bytes to the other computer and reports on whether the other computer is currently connected to the Internet, as well as how long it takes them to reach that computer. Traceroute reports the number of computers or routers between your computer and a remote server. Echo is a service allowing the user to connect to a host computer and send data to it. The data is in turn echoed right back to the user.
NetScan Tools works with the standard Windows 95 and NT Winsocks and many after market winsocks. Netscan Tools also runs on Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51, NT 4.0, Windows 98 and Windows NT 5.0.
