MSW FTP Wolf 1.03

Simon Coles

Finding the software you're looking for on the Internet is never easy. In fact, it can sometimes be aggravating enough to forego the whole process. Luckily, there are a few good search engines that enable you to target a specific application name or domain name location in order to really track down what you're after. The larger search sites like Infoseek, Yahoo, Lycos etc. tend to overlook the fact that someone may be after a specific text file or archived program which they know is on the Net somewhere.

Enter a rather interesting and useful application from Web newcomer MSW called FTPWolf.

FTP Wolf is a front-end interface to the Internet, similar to those released about a year ago (Yahoo taskbar interface, Infoseek drop-down menu searches etc.), but with the specific objective of finding the files you want from a range of FTP sites. Users familiar with the Internet and FTP searching will know of FTP Search 3.5. FTP Wolf is a huge advancement over FTP Search, enabling users to customize the interface and maximize potential matches. Search results are also displayed through your browser, with active links to each successful file match. Here is FTP Wolf's basic interface:

Once the search is complete, FTP Wolf generates an HTML document and presents it to you in your browser window.

This entire process is extremely straightforward and takes very little time. From start to finish, you can manage to find what you want and download it in less than 10 minutes. FTP Wolf knows where to look and is able to get you what you need there with a minimum of fuss.

Another great feautre was the built in selection of games, applications, browsers and Internet applications, and the ability to go right to a homepage to download it or an information page to read about it. In this regard it's possible check out the latest software upgrades without taking up valuable browser space and time.

These product sites are updated frequently, and FTP Wolf will notify the user when new updates are available. Using FTP Wolf is much easier than having to go through your bookmarks each week and look for new versions of software.

Overall, FTP Wolf is a surprisingly simple application. As an addition to your Web Browser, FTP Wolf has the potential to save a lot of time and get you right where you need to be. Best of all, there are no ugly ad banners to slow down your searching.
