Corel WordPerfect Suite 7.0 Connected Suite! Michael Hayman
WordPerfect's two-page mode displays two active pages side by side. Although this might not be useful if you use a small monitor, it can save a lot of time and effort if you use a large display. A small but helpful addition is WordPerfect's shadow cursor, which helps you precisely position your cursor when you move your mouse.
Internet Publisher is built into WordPerfect, which makes it easy to create Web pages without learning HTML tags. The wizard-like Web Page Expert asks for basic information such as headings, your name, and your e-mail address. It then inserts the properly tagged information in the correct position on the page. The Expert also helps you select background colours and wallpaper for your pages--it comes with about 40 wallpaper patterns.
Connected Suite
The ability to create Web pages easily is just one of WordPerfect Suite's Internet capabilities. At the simplest level, clicking a toolbar button in any of the three core applications launches your Web browser.
You can also easily add links to Web pages, FTP and Gopher sites, or corporate intranets within word processing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. This trick, which Microsoft Office applications can't perform, connects your documents to the rest of the world.
Another notable connectivity capability is the QuickConnect applet, which scans your drive for Web browser bookmarks and front-end software for online services such as Compuserve. It then lists sites you've either bookmarked or recently visited; if you select a site from the list, you jump to that resource. If you aren't online, QuickConnect begins the connection process.
Integration and Consistency
Other areas in which WordPerfect Suite excels are the consistency of its interface, task automation, and connectivity among applications. The toolbars, menus, and work areas of the core applications are similar, which shortens your learning time. The suite's Desktop Application Director places one-click launch icons for the applications in the system tray of the Windows 95 Taskbar.
Quick Tasks
WordPerfect Suite comes with 40 QuickTasks, which automate chores ranging from creating memos and Web pages to tracking your portfolio. The QuickTasks are thorough--if you are connected to the Internet, for example, the portfolio tracking QuickTask automatically updates the prices of securities.
QuickTasks also can interconnect the suite's applications. You create new QuickTasks by recording your actions. At a simple level, a QuickTask can launch a programme and load a specific template. More powerfully, you also can move information among multiple programms. This means you could, say, load a spreadsheet file, copy a range of cells, and paste them into a word processing document. For more-complex interapplication connectivity, you can use the PerfectScript scripting language.
