America Online 4.0

Justin Weber

America Online 4.0 is AOL's new secret weapon. Although AOL is already the largest Internet provider in the world, Steve Case and friends are making sure that threats like the Microsoft Network don't lure away its members. AOL's drab graphics have been spiced up in this new version of the America Online proprietary software (code named Casablanca). This is a response to MSN's Web-based, highly graphical design. Along with great new graphics, many other features make AOL 4.0 a better client.

During Casablanca's beta testing, users requested the ability to switch to a different screen name without having to completely sign off from America Online. AOL took heed of the suggestions and created a feature that does just so.

AOL 4.0 comes with a completely redesigned interface. In fact, the entire UI is fantastic compared to that of previous versions. HTML and customizable email and chat rooms are great new features.

AOL's new browser is clearly a step to the future. With new graphics and increased ease of use, America Online will most likely lure more customers to its service. AOL 4.0 ensures America Online's dominance in the ISP business for many years to come.
