Controlled Testing
I tested InstallShield AdminStudio 2.0 in a controlled laboratory environment and testing went more smoothly than I had anticipated.
First I installed InstallShield AdminStudio 2.0 on a network Pentium development machine running Windows 98. The product came on a single CD-ROM and launched automatically. Naturally, the product was installed using an InstallShield Wizard and installation went without a hitch.
The package can be installed on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with SP5, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 95.
If running on NT 4.0 or Windows 98 or Windows 95, you need Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 or higher.
Since the product comes with a well-written and easy-tofollow "Getting Started Guide" I was able to check the other requirements such as memory, VGA resolution, and free disk space easily.
After installation, following directions, I switched to a clean machine to test the repackaging. I accessed the Repackager from my clean machine and went through the process of repackaging process converting several setups into Repackager script files which I intended to import with Author.
Repackaging was a simple process that consist of fewer steps than I had imagined. After the initial system status analysis was complete I was prompted to run the setup. The InstallShield Wizard then launched to extract PackageForTheWeb 3 for installation.
After extracting PackageForTheWeb, the PackageForTheWeb 3 Installation Panel appeared. There is a license agreement that I accepted by clicking on Next. InstallShield AdminStudio 2.0 is a highly intuitive product and by following the directions it's easy to utilize the product.
After installing the PackageForTheWeb in the Destination Folder I was prompted to analyze system status changes.
When the Repackager finished and I exited, I was presented with a Summary of the action that had taken place.
I now had all the files necessary for conversion to a Windows Installer package in the folder specified in the Set Target Project Information.
