The User's Guide does not contain a Trouble Shooting section. Since no program is perfect, when you do have a problem you have several options. The first is experimentation on your own. The second is looking through the User's Guide under the sections for Working With Specific File Types and other sections. Because of the directions that are provided, it's possible to frequently find small errors you may have made. If that doesn't work, all registered users can turn to Jasc for technical support, and they are generally able to sove the problem.
Problems
With all of the testing I did on all four operating systems (Windows 98, NT4.0, Windows 2000, Windows ME), the infrequent problems that I encountered were all in the graphics area. Primarily they involved the distortion or loss of part of the graphic image being displayed. In most cases I was able to get sufficient help from Techncal Support to overcome these problems. In two instances, I was unable to get what I considered a satisfactory display.
Despite the lack of getting two graphic displays, I still consider the testing to have been successful, but realistically, like all other programs, it is not 100% perfect. My feelings are that it was about 99% reliable and effective, and certainly it was much easier and faster to view files with Quick View Plus than it was to view them without the utility.
Payoff Versus Payout
While not perfect, the ease of file viewing that the program affords, the flexibility of integration, and the time that it saves the user, justifies the expenditure for the package.
Overall, the utility does not require much, if any maintenance, and any problems encountered were relatively minor. Most problems could be fixed easily and those problems that couldn't be fixed were such a small percentage that there was virtually no impact on the overall test and/or project result.
Windows XP Integration
As of this time, Quick View Plus 6.0 does not integrate with Windows XP. Of course, Windows XP is still in beta test version and isn't going to be released in final form until October 25th. Because Windows XP is still in the process of being modified, it's not certain what added features will be incorporated into Quick View Plus, but because Jasc keeps the product up to date, I anticipate that they will have a Windows XP version available in or around October 2001.
