ShowShifter Digital Media Gateway Summary Douglas Smith
ShowShifter is a very impressive program with its smooth skins interface, extra-large buttons and controls, and awesome viewing area. We felt very comfortable using the program and setup was rather simple given a decent Pentium class machine with enough memory--something like 64 MB--and plenty of hard disk space for storing movies and recorded shows. ShowShifter supports just about every type of media, including Television, DVD, Music, and PVS for recording shows and pausing of live TV.
The speed of the program once loaded was very good, and the Web site had lots of information about the program, including helping with finding special drivers that might be needed for installation. We tested the program in both Windows 2000 and Windows ME and each system worked almost flawlessly, with only a few hiccups here and there with screen resolution when we changed channels, but nothing serious. The program is in final beta right now, slated to be released in January 2001. You can download a beta copy of the program from the the Home Media Networks web site and give it a whirl. We doubt you'll be disappointed!
