Nero 5 Burning Rom Nero 5 The Future of CD Mastering Is Here Now! Douglas Smith
Lately we have been in search of a new program to replace our aging CD-R burning software. We have tried several and there are some really good ones out there if you look hard enough. Well, for us the wait is over now that we've found Nero 5.0. It's put out by Ahead Software out of Karlsbad Germany, a company that specializes in CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, and Internet Audio/Video Applications. Immediately upon getting our copy, we were impressed with the highly valued feature, conversion of MP3 to WAV and vice versa on the fly! What this means in layman's terms is that you don't have to convert MP3s to WAV first and then to CD; it's a one-step process instead of two. All we had to do was drag our MP3s to the audio compilation window. Once we had our tender morsels in place, with just a push of a button all conversion was done automatically. With a double-click on a file, we could split tracks, set index markers, etc. with ease. This feature is one of the most wanted features in CD mastering software these days.
Alright, enough about the MP3 conversion. How well does it work with other chores that you really want a CD-R program for ? Well we can answer that question in just one word--brilliantly. Installation was fast, and after a restart of our test system the program loaded very quickly. After a brief scan of system SCSI/IDE ports for a usable CD-R, a New Compilation screen is displayed to select the type of Disk to create. Choices are CD-ROM (ISO), Audio-CD, Mixed Mode CD (Yes, it will even burn CD's with Data and Audio! ), Video-CD, Super Video CD, CD-ROM (Boot), CD-ROM (Hybrid), CD-ROM (UDF), and CD-ROM (UDF/ISO).
Now, after selecting the type of CD to burn, proceed or click on the Wizard button on that screen and make the selection process even easier. The retail version comes bundled with everything that you will ever need to master CDs even if you are a seasoned veteran.
