Opera 4.0
Opera 4.0 - Small, Fast, and Powerful!
Douglas Smith

For years the big two web browsers have dominated in power and features, constantly changing the way we do business and surf the internet. Slowly the big two are becoming the big one, and the rest is history, until now! Opera 4.0, just released after about a year of beta testing by thousands of users worldwide, has emerged with some very nice features. Opera has been around for a few years now and has always been a small, fast, customizable, powerful and user-friendly program. Developed by a small company from Oslo, Norway, Opera Software, Opera 4.0 has advanced towards the top of the browser market by leaps and bounds.

Opera 4.0 has incorporated many new and improved features since our earlier review of a year ago ( http://www.winplanet.com/winplanet/reviews/576/1/ ). Opera is written from scratch and is not based on the code of Mosaic or any other browser. Opera 4.0 handles multiple windows with ease and incorporates a small and very functional email client. Talk about customizability; if you don't like the UI gadgetry, you can turn it off. If you don't like cookies or referrer logging, frames or multimedia, or just JavaScript, one click turns them off. If you'd like to customize the look and feel of your tool bar, no problem at all. If you can't read a badly designed page, one click (or CTRL-G) enables your own settings and overwrites the document settings. One click turns off graphics and one click zooms in or out. These features alone make Opera 4.0 the one to have with so many sites coming up using all types of scripting and design these days.
