History Reader 5
A Different Approach!
Douglas Smith

History Reader does not generate its own database, but uses the Internet Explorer database. Therefore, History Reader and Internet Explorer contents are fully compatible, reliability of information retrieval is guaranteed and minimum storage is occupied. During a browsing session, the only program that needs to be up and running is the browser, and that's it! This is a lot better than most of the memory resident programs that utilize their own internal databases and must be run along with the browser. Using HR5 is made easy by its use of Internet Explorer's index file (Index.dat) for URL management. From the index selected by the user, History Reader generates a list. This list provides three columns containing URLs, titles and dates of latest visits. (Dates of first visit are not provided, as they are not stored in the history index files). Sorting is provided for the URL and date columns. Appending selections to an HR5 text file allows for much lower disk requirements vs using the Favorites file. Add comments to saved history file URLs for weeks down the road when you've forgotten exactly what a saved line was for.
