While the potential is there, this program could use a few improvements. The author offers a free downloadable evaluation copy of the program from his web site. It is fully functional but time-limited to 21 days. Every time you start the evaluation copy, the first thing up is a nag screen displaying days left in the trial period and asking you to register. Get past that and finally the program opens.
Another problem is documentation. While the program offers many powerful features pertaining to manipulating browser caches, the help files could use some help. It's rather difficult to understand how the program operates and how to set up different caches. Be careful when setting them up; if you are like me you may wind up with them in the wrong directories (= "folders", for newbies). The program states Browser Cache Switch will not delete any cache until told to. Of course, figuring out how is another story. This is the type of program that would greatly benefit from a tutorial or an overview section in the help files to guide the first time user.
I was able to create different caches and get Internet Explorer to switch from one to the other, but I never could view any of them caches from within Browser Cache Switch, although I could using Windows Explorer. Another peculiarity is that some of the error dialog boxes are in German. I am not sure if this is a bug or some "tongue in cheek feature" of the software. Or just slow translation.
Heavy web surfers who feel their browser caches may be bloated to the point that computer performance is suffering may want to consider Browser Cache Switch. Requires Internet Explorer 4 or 5; no other browsers are supported.
