TextPad 4.1
Introduction
Jim Fox

Windows Notepad is a nice little utility for editing text files, but there are many things a text editor can be used for besides just editing *.txt files. If you are one of those demanding users looking for a text editor and then some, check out TextPad.

TextPad is a great little Windows text editor that comes in 16 and 32-bit editions. It has the power to accomplish any text editing-related task with ease. With TextPad you are not limited by the size of the file, as with Notepad. In fact, with the 32-bit edition of TextPad, the size of the file is only limited by the size of your virtual memory.

There is nothing worse than having a powerful program that is confusing or difficult to use. This is not the case with TextPad. It has been designed in accordance with standard Windows 95 user interface guidelines, making it easy to learn for beginners and experienced users alike. TextPad makes extensive use of the right mouse button, the mark of a well designed program. Click on the right mouse button anywhere in the TextPad workspace and you are presented with a host of options relating to the task at hand. TextPad also allows multiple files to be edited simultaneously, with up to 2 views on each file. Text can be dragged and dropped between files or between views.

Another sign of a quality program is the ability to configure it to suit various needs and preferences. TextPad passes this test with flying colors, also. Included with TextPad is a Preferences dialog box to configure just about anything realated to the program; the choices and options are endless.

TextPad comes with several nice features such as commands to change case, and transpose words, characters and lines, enabling the user to correct many common typing errors. Other commands indent blocks of text, split or join lines, and insert whole files. Another nice feature is the undo "stack". Any change can be undone or redone, right back to the first one made. The undo buffer can be optionally cleared when a file is saved, or at any other time by using the Mark Clean command.
