NetLoad
Maintenance Made Easy
Jim Fox

There are all sorts of web page development tools out there. Creating a web page can be a snap even for the novice. The problem has always been that once that web page has any size or complexity to it, updates become a real pain. You certainly don't want to upload your entire site structure each time. The logical thing to do is upload only the files that have changed, but identifying the files to upload is easier said than done. If this sounds like you, NetLoad has come to your rescue.

Whether you are simply maintaining your personal web page or you are a web page administrator handling a series of sites on many servers, you will love NetLoad. NetLoad quickly identifies new and updated files and with a click of a button will upload them to the server. Netload will rebuild directory structures and even remove orphaned files and directories.

NetLoad also supports mirroring a web site down to a local hard drive. The interface is very clean and simple; the help files identify a simple 7-step process to maintain your web site. The first is creation of an entry for each web site to be maintained. For each entry, specify the location of the directory on the computer and server along with logon name and password. Give it an easily recognizable nickname. Any number of web sites can be maintained. After all your web sites are entered into NetLoad, it is simply a matter of selecting the one to work on from a drop down list and clicking Connect. Two boxes come up, the one on the left with the local hard drive directory structure and on the right the directory structure on the server.

Click Compare and Netload instantly matches the two locations. Once the analysis is completed, icons appear next to files to indicate status. A blue diamond indicates no change; a green checkmark indicates the file is not present on the server and will be uploaded from the PC; a clock indicates that the PC file has been changed and needs to be uploaded to the server. Any files on the server not present on the PC are marked with a garbage can and will be deleted at the next upload. Once this compare phase is done click Upload and watch NetLoad do its thing. In a matter of seconds your web site is updated.
