Sonic Foundry Acid Pro 2.0 The Acid Scare Paul Jones
Audio software has come a long way over the past few years—and Sonic Foundry has been at the forefront of those technological advances. Acid Pro 2.0 is an impressive example of the ingenuity and quality found in Sonic Foundry products.
In 1998, Sonic Foundry released Acid 1.0, a loop-based music production software application. The magic behind Acid was simplicity. All a user had to do was double-click a WAV file and, with a pencil tool, draw a track on the screen. The longer the drawn track, the more times the file looped. More tracks could be added as easily as the first. An entire song could be created literally in minutes. Naturally the music industry got into an uproar over the whole thing. Oh, the music industry is going to collapse, they said. The recording houses are going to go belly up, they said. But most of us just dropped our jaws and said, cool.
Needless to say, the music industry and the recording houses still stand, but thanks to Acid there may very well be a great many more musicians than there used to be.
