PMMail 2000
Under This Neat Interface is What Makes it Really Cook!
Douglas Smith

PMMail 2000 is the flagship product of the PMMail line, available in two formats: PMMail 2000 Standard and Professional. PMMail 2000 features many elements required by today's businesses--small or large--to communicate effectively with their customers. The user interfaces for both versions are exceptionally easy to navigate, requiring very little intervention in actual setup and use of the the program's many functions. The Professional version allows users to send encrypted email messages using the de facto highest standard of encryption, PGP (Pretty Good Privacy), integrated into the product through a special licensing agreement made with Network Associates, Inc. The Standard version of PMMail 2000 is more than a "standard" email program. The product feature set is user-driven and has many of the features of the Professional version. Through its easy-to-navigate menu, this version is great for today's beginner. Like the Pro version, it allows users to send and receive encrypted messages and attachments automatically, using PGP integration. With this feature comes the ability to sign all messages, as well as manage a keyring for private and public keys. This is integrated seamlessly, and just about anyone, even the beginner, can readily it set up. Where PMMail 2000 really shines is in the filtering language incorporated, using Internet Communication Search Language (ICSL). Most email clients have some limited ability to filter messages, but PMMail 2000 goes beyond that.

PMMail 2000 organizes messages automatically; received email can be assigned specific sub-folders and can be routed directly there. This filtering engine can sort through all varieties of mail, and can even be set up to perform the functions of a mailing list. There is a migration wizard that allows users of other email programs to smoothly transfer existing account settings, along with current messages, into a new PMMail account. This easy-to-use feature also allows each account to be modified according to need. A neat feature called remote control can manipulate email while it still sits on the server, allowing deletion of selected messages and downloading of desired messages at will.

The user interface is configurable, including "drag and drop" icons, and the address manager is among the best we have seen at storing in-depth contact information. Information, statistics and data sit at the bottom of all windows in a status area, giving easy continual access. Group list functions accept message lists for group mail. Rich text format is available, along with spell-check, multiple signatures and word wrap. There is also an internal dialer, and hooks exist for just about any task to be performed before and/or after each mail call.
