Nero 6.3 PowerPack Update Includes Advanced DVD Authoring AMD64 and Intel Hyper-Threading Support Eric Grevstad
Mon 12/15/03 -- Owners of Ahead Software's Nero 6 Ultra Edition will want to get busy downloading the Nero 6.3 PowerPack, a free update to the company's CD and DVD burning suite that adds dozens of new functions plus a brand-new application -- Recode 2, which Ahead calls the world's most advanced DVD re-quantizer and transcoder. The latter uses the Nero Digital MPEG-4 video and audio scheme to re-author, copy, re-process, and shrink MPEG-2 streams, converting non-copy-protected DVD movies or folders to Nero Digital while preserving chapters, subtitles, and surround-sound audio.
Other 6.3 PowerPack features include unlimited MP3 encoding; Ogg Vorbis audio support; DVD-RW and DVD-RAM quick formatting for InCD 4.1; on-the-fly compression and recording without using any temporary hard-disk storage for Nero BackItUp; and numerous speed and quality improvements for the NeroVision Express and ShowTime video applications. The software also adds support for AMD's 64-bit Opteron and Athlon 64 and Intel's Hyper-Threading Pentium 4 processors.
Nero 6 Ultra Edition is priced at $100 for the boxed set or $70 for a serial number that converts the free-trial edition to full functionality. The update consists of four downloads totaling some 56MB.
