FileMaker Urges Excel Addicts To Try a Real Database Drag, Drop, and Discount Eric Grevstad
Mon 12/15/03 -- Not many small-business operators use (or need) the muscle and complexity of Microsoft's enterprise-class Access database, but that doesn't mean they should grapple with Excel spreadsheets for managing non-numeric information such as contact lists. FileMaker Inc. has set up an area of its Web site to demonstrate how Microsoft Office users can drag and drop Excel worksheets onto a FileMaker Pro icon to convert them to flexible FileMaker Pro 6 databases in seconds, and offered a $50 mail-in rebate on the database software's $299 price.
The site offers a variety of tips and techniques for exchanging data between Excel and FileMaker Pro applications and explanations of the benefits of trading Excel's disjointed data elements for a more intuitive relational database view.
