TechSmith Offers New Versions of Camtasia Studio and SnagIt New Ways to Capture Screen Stills and Videos Eric Grevstad
PC screen-capture specialist TechSmith Corp. has introduced new versions of its SnagIt screenshot and Camtasia Studio multimedia screen recorder programs.
Camtasia Studio 2 ($299) makes creating software demos or application training tutorials easy with support for both streaming media and high-quality, highly compressed Macromedia Flash output. A completely redesigned editor helps enhance screen recordings and digital video files, while interactive hot spots make Flash movies even more flexible. Users can preview edits and transitions in real time, add call-out boxes during production, and narrate across multiple clips.
SnagIt 7 ($40) lets Windows users capture, edit, and share screen images or selected portions thereof, with new paint tools embedded in the capture-preview window and a SnagIt Image Editor to instantly add lines, shapes, annotations, and other elements. New creative and artistic editing effects include perspective, shear, spotlight, and magnification, while toolbar add-ins support the new Office 2003 editions of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
In addition to a completely redesigned interface for smoother workflow, version 7 also adds profile management for creating personalized configurations with quick access to individuals' or departments' most commonly used features.
