DataViz Brings Native Word and Excel Files to Palm PDAs Seamless File Sharing with Big PCs and Pocket PCs Eric Grevstad
Mon 9/15/03 -- Palm OS handheld users have long relied on DataViz' Documents To Go utility to import and export Microsoft Word and Excel files for editing between their PCs and PDAs; indeed, the software is bundled with handhelds from Palm, Sony, and Garmin.
But the new Documents To Go Premium Edition 6 works differently than earlier versions -- instead of converting Office documents to a special handheld format before synchronization, it offers native Word and Excel file support. This means Palm PDA users can receive word processing documents and spreadsheets via wireless e-mail or share SecureDigital memory cards with Pocket PC users, edit the files on their handhelds, and send them as e-mail attachments which arrive on recipients' PCs as real Word or Excel files.
Documents To Go Premium Edition 6 ($50; $30 upgrade) also features integrated spell checking and word count; support for password-protected Word and Excel files; and synchronization of e-mail with attachments in Inbox To Go (formerly DataViz Mail). Users can choose to synchronize files in Word or Excel format for easy sharing; Word To Go or Sheet To Go format to conserve file space; or for use with Margi's Presenter-To-Go hardware and software.
