$99 WordPerfect Office Education Edition Goes To Retail Taking a Page from Microsoft's Book Eric Grevstad
Mon 7/7/03 -- Who says the honor system is dead? Since expanding its presence from college bookstores to mass-market outlets like Staples and Wal-Mart, Microsoft's $149 Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers has been a bestseller -- thanks in part, we suspect, to retail cashiers' not bothering to request a student or faculty ID when ringing up the suite for $250 less than the official civilian price of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Now Corel Corp. is making the same move, making WordPerfect Office 11 Education Edition available at retail stores for $99 starting July 31. Formerly available through academic resellers only, the suite includes the latest versions of the WordPerfect word processor, Quattro Pro spreadsheet, Presentations multimedia presentation maker, and Paradox relational database.
Officially, accredited schools' faculty, full- or part-time students, academic organizations, hospitals, libraries, museums, and nonprofit charitable or religious institutions are eligible to purchase WordPerfect Office 11 Education Edition.
