Fetch Files and Stay Secure with LapLink Gold 11.5 New Direct-Connect USB Transfer and Firewall Navigation Eric Grevstad
Mon 6/30/03 -- LapLink Software's namesake utility has come a long way since it copied files from 5.25-inch-floppy-equipped DOS desktops to 3.5-inch-floppy-equipped notebooks -- and so have its business-traveling, Web-relying users. Version 11.5 of the LapLink Gold file-transfer and remote-control package adds new features, a lower price, and the availability of a version preloaded on a handy USB "pen drive" or flash-memory gadget ($130, versus $100 for the downloaded and $110 for the boxed software).
LapLink Gold 11.5 supports reliable, direct-connect transfer between PCs using either USB 1.1 or fast USB 2.0 connections (a USB 1.1 transfer cable is free in the box, with a no-server-required USB 2.0 networking cable offered for $50).
The program includes a free 30-day subscription to the LapLink Everywhere mobile Web-access remote-control service, providing one-click connectivity to any PC over the Internet using encrypted connections, and has been enhanced to support secure firewall navigation as well as access to e-mail, calendars, contacts, documents, and databases from any browser-based device including smart phones and PDAs.
Other enhancements include faster file-transfer and synchronization performance and a simpler user interface, as well as automatic file-recovery features that permit large file transfers even over intermittent wireless connections.
