ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 Beefs Up Firewall Security and Privacy New Anti-Hacker and Anti-Spyware Safeguards Eric Grevstad
Thu 6/12/03 -- Apparently, old-school terms like firewall are passé -- Zone Labs now calls its products "endpoint security solutions." But the veteran hacker-, snoop-, and spyware-fighter has stayed true to its roots with a new release of its PC flagship product, ZoneAlarm Pro.
Version 4.0 of the $50 security package adds stronger Internet security measures to combat the latest online vulnerabilities and exploits, with special attention to ZoneAlarm Pro's MailSafe feature. The latter now examines outbound as well as inbound messages to stop the spread and shorten the lifespan of e-mail worms. A new Hacker ID feature lets users safely track and report attacks on their PCs, while CacheCleaner both speeds overall performance and stops invasions of privacy by cookie-baking Web sites.
A cleaner interface helps novices configure ZoneAlarm Pro's pop-up ad blocking and protection against third-party spying, while expert users get precise control over a variety of firewall rules and settings. ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 can automatically detect and configure VPN connections for mobile workers.
