Don't Attach 'Em, Embed 'Em: New Utility E-Mails Photos Fast Promises Delivery Up To 25 Times Faster Eric Grevstad
Mon 6/9/03 -- According to Novatix Corp., almost 75 percent of digital camera owners share their pictures via e-mail -- but 78 percent of households still rely on sluggish dial-up Internet connections. The company's SendPhotos Gold utility automatically compresses and inserts photos into the body of custom-designed e-mails, eliminating file attachments and avoiding inbox size limitations -- and, Novatix claims, delivering messages up to 25 times faster than full-sized attachments.
The new Gold edition ($20) combines over 100 ready-made backgrounds and message areas with a Stationery Creator for inserting your own designs, colors, company logos, or layouts, as well as tools to crop images, remove red-eye, and adjust brightness and contrast. The utility supports JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, Kodak, and Adobe Photoshop PSD image formats, and can export picture e-mails as HTML files for sharing on a Web site.
The Windows 98/Me/2000/XP-compatible SendPhotos Gold works with any e-mail program, including Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, and integrates with Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express.
