Symantec's pcAnywhere 11.0 Lets IT Managers Reach for the Remote Enhanced File Transfer, Batch Operations, and Security Eric Grevstad
Mon 6/2/03 -- Symantec Corp. has announced a new version of its remote-control solution. Shipping later this month, pcAnywhere 11.0 adds integrated remote management tools and enhanced file transfer to help IT administrators speed server-support and help-desk problem resolution.
The program combines remote control with file-transfer and system management capabilities, including remote management tools that run on the help-desk machine but affect the connected computer. A task manager lets managers remotely manipulate applications and processes on a host system, while Remote Regedit provides complete access to the host's Windows Registry.
Enhanced file-transfer functions include the ability to send files in the background while queuing additional files to be sent. New Command Queue files can combine file transfers with DOS commands to generate batch files for tasks such as software updates.
pcAnywhere 11.0 integrates with RSA's SecurID to provide a two-factor authentication method, ensuring that only authorized users can connect to a remote host. The program will cost $200, with 5- and 10-user small-business packs priced at $800 and $1,600, respectively.
