PentaSuite File Manager Offers Compression, Encryption, CD Burning, and More Reads 16 and Writes 10 Archive Formats Eric Grevstad
Mon 5/19/03 -- A freeware compression utility is fine if you just need an occasional archive of a few files, but if you've got to ride herd on an overflowing hard disk, PentaWare's new PentaSuite file management solution lets you take total command of PC file management and data sharing.
The $100 download ($110 boxed) utility builds on the features of PentaZip to read to 16 and write to 10 major file compression formats, including Zip, Zip64, LZH, CAB, and JAR. PentaSuite also draws on PGP Corp.'s software development kit to incorporate the most secure file encryption methods available for safely transmitting compressed files over the Internet or unsecured office networks.
Other features range from a browser-based file viewer with thumbnail and slide-show capability to FTP support and burning of CD-R and CD-RW discs including Zip and SFX multivolume archives. PentaSuite also includes a scheduler to run events automatically at specified times; user-defined scripting to automate routine tasks; and advanced file conversion for both compressed archives and many image and document formats.
