Microsoft Offers Spring 'Fun Pack' Downloads Having Fun with Windows Media Player 9 and Movie Maker 2 Eric Grevstad
Mon 5/5/03 -- As part of its new PR push that Windows XP lets home PC users and multimedia fans "Do Amazing Things" (new DVD-ROM available for $3 shipping and handling or free with select purchases from Amazon.com or CompUSA), Microsoft has posted a handful of "Spring Fun Packs" or free downloads that show off the capabilities of Windows Media Player 9 and Windows Movie Maker 2, among other things.
The Media Player 9 pack (2.8MB download) adds five new 3D visualizations and code that lets users of popular Weblog (a.k.a. blog) software add automatically generated track info or "Now Listening" lines to their journal entries. The Movie Maker 2 pack (24.8MB) offers six animated and 16 static title slides plus three full-length songs, five music transitions, and over 50 sound effects to liven up home videos for graduations, Mother's Day, Father's Day, or other occasions.
You can also download a set of title slides and templates for digital-photo shows created with the $20 Microsoft Plus Digital Media Edition, as well as two new PowerToys utilities -- a wallpaper changer and a Movie Maker 2 or other WMV-format video screen saver.
