Kaspersky Labs Ships Hacker-Fighting Firewall
Protects Information Even If Your PC Becomes Infected
Eric Grevstad

Mon 3/3/03 -- Kaspersky Labs is well known for fighting computer viruses, but viruses aren't the only threat to your PC these days. So the Moscow-based security software firm has introduced Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, a personal firewall designed to defend home PCs against unauthorized intrusion and data theft.

Kaspersky Anti-Hacker checks all incoming and outgoing data streams, not only blocking external invasions but preventing the outflow of personal data even if a system is infected with a backdoor or Trojan program. Five preset protection levels combine with the ability to define filtration rules for specific applications or IP addresses, while an automatic attack detector guards against common hacker attacks such as port scanning -- in fact, the program's integrated SmartStealth technology makes your PC invisible to outside probes.

Another automatic function provides a self-learning feature that expands the list of security rules for Internet-oriented applications. Periodic checks prevent any attempts to substitute infected or insecure versions for applications' original executable files.

Kaspersky Anti-Hacker 1.0 costs $39. The program is not currently compatible with ADSL modems.
